Congratulations to the Eanes School District for achieving "Exemplary" ratings, the highest possible classification designated by the Texas Education Agency, in all nine schools in the District. To achieve an "Exemplary" rating, all student groups measured on a campus must receive a 90% or higher passing rate on all subject areas of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) testing. The subjects tested vary by grade level, but include English/language arts/reading, writing, math, science and social studies. At the middle school and high school levels, drop out and graduation rates figure into the rating too. The Texas Education Agency releases the school ratings in an accountability manual that describes the procedures and results.
This level of success is notable for the Eanes School District because only 12.7% of all the schools in the State of Texas were rated Exemplary. This is a fine accomplishment for the students, parents and teachers who work there. Eanes school teachers have an average of more than 14 years experience and one third have advanced college degrees. The District also reports that 60% have 10 or more years teaching experience. Parents are also actively involved in their student's education and have many opportunities to volunteer lead in campus projects and activities.
Westlake High School, the only high school in the district, was the only 5A high school in the state to receive an Exemplary rating. Eanes ISD voters approved a $53 million dollar bond in 200 to improve buses, safety, security, technology and school upgrades. Two major renovations are in progress at the high school, the Main Library and a Fine Arts Facility that includes a new Choir Room.
The Eanes schools include 6 elementary schools, Barton Creek Elementary, Bridge Point Elementary, Cedar Creek Elementary, Eanes Elementary, Forest Trail Elementary, and Valley View Elementary. There are also 2 middle schools, Hill Country Middle School, the oldest of the two, and West Ridge Middle School.
Students who attend school in the Eanes School District share many talents and accolades, and housing in the area sells for a premium because of the fine education these students receive. This latest accomplishment will be one of many this year.
